This was a project mapping the Fine Arts print studio at the University of Waterloo via graphite frottage.
I divided the footprint of the studio into a grid of squares, each roughly 4 by 4 feet. Then, for each square in the grid, I selected objects located in that part of the studio and did a rubbing over them onto an 8.5 by 8.5-inch piece of paper with a graphite stick. The papers were then arranged into a grid corresponding to the layout of the studio. So the title of the work can be read in two ways: It refers both to the place that is the subject of the work, and to the method by which it was created (i.e., the studio was “printed”).
